Music in Early Modern Buckinghamshire

18th November 2025 @ 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Free

Join the AHRC ‘Music, Heritage, Place’ project as we explore new discoveries of early modern music in Buckinghamshire archives.

The ‘Music, Heritage, Place’ team is uncovering the musical heritage from 1550 to 1850 held in local archives across England. A collaboration between Royal Holloway University of London and Newcastle University, the project is cataloguing these musical sources and developing a decentralised understanding of English music. We are connecting our archival discoveries with today’s communities, to inspire a new generation of musicians.

This talk will be delivered by Caro Lesemann-Elliott, one of the project’s researchers working on regions in southern England, as part of the Buckinghamshire History Festival. The talk will explore work the team has done in Buckinghamshire archives and neighbouring county archives to reveal new evidence about music-making in early modern Buckinghamshire. Caro will also share some tools and tips for you to do your own research on music history.

Come along to learn how you can get involved in singing and dancing your local past!
